Secondment. It's a term you may have heard pass by, but don't know exactly what it means. A peek into what it means: If you want to work for different companies with the security of a (permanent) contract, secondment is for you. Secondment is more than this description, of course, which is why in this blog we explain what secondment is and how it differs from temporary employment.
What is secondment?
Secondment stands for flexible security. Suppose you want to work for Maandag® as a seconded professional, you will join us as a paid employee. You will receive a (permanent) contract and fringe benefits from us. Then another company hires you for a fixed period to carry out an assignment. When the assignment ends, you will remain employed by Maandag® and together we will look for a new assignment.
What is the difference between secondment and temporary employment?
As a seconded employee, you have a temporary or permanent contract, with a fixed salary and fixed hours. You are employed by a (secondment) agency, and you carry out specific assignments for (different) clients. If you are sick, go on holiday or on maternity leave, the (secondment) agency is responsible for continuing to pay your wages. As a temporary employee, you work under a temporary employment contract. This means that when the assignment ends, so does your contract. Of course, we will always look for the next assignment in time. Whereas with secondment you work a fixed number of hours per week, you decide your own schedule with temporary employment. It is good to know that you will only be paid for hours worked. Holidays, illness or days off are not paid.
What are the benefits of secondment?
Secondment stands for dynamism, flexibility, freedom and responsibility. Working as a seconded employee works in your favour if you do not want to work for one employer for 10-20 years but do need financial security. Moreover, by working at different companies, working through secondment is the perfect type of work for personal growth and development.
Are there any disadvantages to secondment?
Secondment has to suit you. If you like structure, it can be a challenge. You may become less involved in an organisation, as temporary assignments mean you don't get to know the company culture and your colleagues as well. Sometimes you work ten minutes' drive from home, other times you commute for an hour. By the way, Maandag® does offer the possibilities of a lease car or travel allowance. And if, with a certain assignment, you think this fits me like a glove, this is where I want to stay, we can discuss with the client whether permanent employment is possible.
What does secondment mean at Maandag®?

Your working week can therefore consist of various assignments, as well as training courses. You can even retrain completely.
