Other days focus on executing tests, collecting measurement data, analysing results, documenting findings or improving test methods. “No two days are really the same,” Volanka says. “And that is something I actually enjoy.” Working hands-on with real systems Volanka works hands-on with electro-mechanical systems in a development and testing environment. His role includes testing and verification, troubleshooting, developing custom test setups and supporting product development through lab testing. “In some cases, I build DAQ and test setups completely from scratch,” he explains. For Volanka, the most interesting part is working at the intersection of hardware and software, where practical testing, measurement data and technical understanding come together. When testing improves the product One thing that surprised him in his current assignment is how much testing happens before products reach customers. Behind everyday products, there is a significant amount of R&D, system verification, reliability testing, troubleshooting and validation work. For Volanka, the work feels especially meaningful when test results feed directly back into product development. “The work matters when test results improve the final product,” he says. Seeing real product improvements based on lab testing is when the role feels most valuable. Learning through every assignment Working as a consultant also means entering new environments, systems and teams. Every assignment can bring unfamiliar systems, new technologies and unexpected problems. That can push you outside your comfort zone, but it is also where a lot of professional growth happens. One recent learning experience has been working in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab. That environment highlighted the importance of documentation, traceability, repeatability and structured testing processes. “It changed how consistent and methodical I became in my work.” Support and balance As a consultant, Volanka values having support in the background. “The Maandag team is always there when I need them, just a phone call away, responsive and ready to help.” Outside work, he recharges through gym training, outdoor activities and spending time in Swedish nature. For engineers who enjoy hands-on problem-solving, testing, verification and working close to real systems, this kind of role offers both challenge and development. No two days are the same.
