Android Developer
Project-based consulting work for clients, delivering expertise and solutions on a flexible basis.
About the Position
Start: November Duration: Full-time 40 h/week, 12 months with a possibility of extension Location: Stockholm, 80% on site
We are now looking for an Android Engineer to join a team that owns the platform used to provision, manage and support thousands of in-store devices, from smartphones and Android POS terminals to self-checkout units and RFID readers. This is a broad, hands-on role where you will move between production Android development, backend and data work, and early-stage hardware investigation. You will build and maintain integrations toward Managed Google Play, Omnissa Workspace ONE (WS1), Samsung Knox and Zero Touch enrollment to enable Android device provisioning at scale.
You will also build proof-of-concept apps to explore new hardware and SDKs ahead of production teams, helping derisk hardware adoption for the wider organization. This work calls for speed and pragmatism rather than polished production code.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and maintaining a set of production Android apps, including a device enrollment app used when new hardware arrives in store, a device info and factory reset utility protected by Entra ID login, an app for firmware updates and error analysis on portable RFID readers, and a background app that starts required services and collects device telemetry
- Gathering and structuring data about the device fleet and related systems in BigQuery, and making it available through data sharing and Looker Studio dashboards
- Maintaining and extending an internal app used to test new RFID tags and technology before production use
- Maintaining a small web app used by third-party suppliers to enroll devices
- Providing developer support to other software teams building on top of the platform
- Documenting knowledge and turning it into something the wider team can rely on
Job Requirements
- Strong Android development experience, for example Kotlin and Jetpack Compose or Java and XML views. Experience from SwiftUI, React Native or Flutter also works if you are comfortable picking up Compose quickly
- Experience with backend development in a language such as Node.js, Python or Java on a cloud platform, ideally GCP
- Experience structuring and exposing data through BigQuery or a comparable data warehouse, and ideally building dashboards in Looker Studio or similar BI tools for non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working across multiple technology stacks or environments rather than only one language or platform
- Ability to switch between careful, secure, well-tested production code and fast, pragmatic exploratory coding, with good judgment about which a task needs
- Solid understanding of security practices for production code, such as authentication, secure defaults and handling of device and store data
- Strong debugging skills across both software and hardware layers
- Curiosity about hardware and comfort working with SDKs for new devices and peripherals such as RFID readers, printers and scanners
- Experience with, or a strong interest in, enterprise mobility management (MDM/EMM) and device provisioning at scale
- Good communication skills in both Swedish and English, written and spoken
Experience with Workspace ONE, Managed Google Play, Samsung Knox or Zero Touch is a plus.
As a person you are a generalist at heart who enjoys jumping into an unfamiliar SDK, a new hardware integration or a different part of the stack without a long ramp-up. You are independent and self-driven, and comfortable being the one who figures things out first so that others can build on it.
