Embedded Software Developer, Android & QNX
Project-based consulting work for clients, delivering expertise and solutions on a flexible basis.
About the Position
Start: As soon as possible Duration: 12 months with a possibility of extension Location: Gothenburg
We are looking for an experienced Embedded Systems Developer with strong Android Automotive expertise to join a technology-driven platform team within a global automotive technology company. The company develops advanced software and platform solutions for the automotive industry, with a focus on infotainment, connected vehicles and next-generation vehicle technologies. You will work in an international environment, collaborating with experienced engineering teams across different projects and locations.
In this role, you will work hands-on with Android Automotive and embedded systems, covering everything from Android platform development and middleware to lower-level software and hardware integration. You will be involved in developing and integrating new platform capabilities, troubleshooting complex system issues and ensuring that solutions work reliably on real hardware, test rigs, emulators and virtual environments.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and integrate Android Automotive and embedded software across different platform layers.
- Implement and maintain features in close collaboration with the Platform team and project stakeholders.
- Work with system integration, hardware bring-up and debugging on target hardware, test rigs and emulators.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues across software and hardware boundaries.
- Contribute to technical decisions, architecture and continuous improvement of the platform.
- Collaborate in an agile team and take ownership of assigned technical areas.
Job Requirements
- University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, preferably within embedded or automotive systems.
- Experience with embedded Linux and lower-level embedded development.
- Solid hands-on experience with Android Automotive (AAOS) in a professional environment.
- Experience working with Android Automotive at platform and lower software layers, rather than only application development.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems, software architecture and system integration.
- Experience with hardware bring-up, hardware interfaces and debugging on target hardware.
- Experience working with emulators, virtual platforms and/or test rigs to develop, integrate and troubleshoot embedded software.
- Strong programming skills in C++, Python and/or Java.
- Ability to investigate and resolve issues across multiple software and system layers.
- Comfortable working in an agile environment and taking ownership of technical challenges.
It is not a must, but considered a plus if you also have:
- Experience with QNX and/or hypervisors.
- Experience with Android platform integration, configuration and build systems.
- Experience with HAL, BSP, drivers or other low-level system components.
- Experience from the automotive industry, particularly infotainment or connected vehicle platforms.
- Knowledge of Google Automotive Services (GAS) and related integration requirements.
- Experience with system validation, automated testing or CI/CD in an embedded environment.
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, pragmatic and self-driven, with a genuine interest in understanding how things work across the full technology stack. You are comfortable getting close to the hardware, investigating problems independently and finding practical solutions when requirements or circumstances are not fully defined. You enjoy working collaboratively in an international environment, take ownership of your work and are motivated by solving complex technical challenges.
