Structure, people and problem-solving: meet hospitality consultant Erika

After 25 years of leading complex operations, Erika knows one thing clearly: hospitality is not only about systems, logistics and planning. As a hospitality consultant at Maandag Nordic, Erika works with large-scale operations where structure, coordination and communication are essential. Her work involves managing thousands of beds, transport, logistics and daily alignment across several stakeholders. “It’s a people business at the end of the day,” Erika says. “There are always human challenges.” Structure creates efficiency In Erika’s work, structure is what keeps complex operations moving. Her day starts with alignment: connecting with teams, setting priorities and making sure everyone is moving in the same direction. For her, communication is one of the most important tools. “It’s very productive to talk things through, whether digitally or face to face. You resolve things much faster.” Solving problems with people What gives Erika energy is problem-solving. From operational issues to people dynamics, she enjoys understanding what is really causing a challenge and finding the best way forward together with a diverse team. “Problem resolution is my favourite task,” she says. “From understanding the causes to finding the best way forward with a diverse team is exciting.” Having worked across countries and cultures, Erika also sees diversity as a strength. Different perspectives often lead to better decisions, especially in complex environments where no single person has the full picture. “When you bring that diversity to the table, that’s what you contribute.” Adjusting without losing yourself Working across different teams and cultures also means learning how to adapt. For Erika, the key is adjusting to how people work without losing your own way of contributing. Every team is different. Some situations require patience, others need directness, structure or a calm presence. Over time, that experience builds confidence. “When you work with different people and cultures every day, even uncomfortable situations become an opportunity to learn.” Sustainable performance matters High energy does not come from pushing endlessly. For Erika, sustainable performance comes from knowing yourself, setting boundaries and understanding what helps you recharge. Outside work, she finds energy through yoga, training, family and nature in Northern Sweden. “No one knows you better than you do,” she says. Support in complex environments As a consultant, Erika values having support around her while working in demanding environments. “The team has been very supportive from the start.
