About the Position

We are now looking for a Cloud Backend Engineer to our client, an early-stage medtech company based in Stockholm. As the company prepares for further integrations with U.S. hospitals and expands its product platform, they are looking for an experienced freelance developer to join the team.
This is a contract role where you will work closely with a small, highly technical team to strengthen the product, improve system robustness, and support upcoming healthcare integrations. You will collaborate with a compact engineering team responsible for a cloud-based platform that integrates directly with hospital Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. The system processes clinical data streams, generates predictive insights, and supports care management workflows.
The current platform runs on AWS and consists of multiple services and a complex data layer. As the company prepares for further deployments, the focus is on improving reliability, strengthening the cloud environment, and continuing to evolve the product.
Your work will include a mix of:
- Backend and cloud development
- Improving test coverage and system reliability
- Refactoring and maintaining existing services and databases
- Contributing to infrastructure and CI/CD improvements
- Supporting frontend development where needed
- Participating in technical discussions related to integrations and data flows with hospital systems
The role suits a developer who enjoys working broadly across the stack and who can bring structure and clarity to a growing technical platform.
Job Requirements
To be successful in this role, we see that you have:
- 5+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong experience with Python and AWS-based systems
- Experience working with microservices architectures
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code
- Solid experience working with relational databases
- Comfortable improving existing systems, writing tests, and refactoring code
- Able to work independently in a small team environment
- Fluent in English (Swedish is a plus)
It's not required, but it's considered a plus if you also have:
- Experience working in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., medtech, healthcare, finance, insurance)
- Experience with healthcare systems or EHR integrations
- Experience working with clinical or sensitive data
- Frontend experience (e.g., React) is a plus
- Experience with system integration projects
